ב-ראשית

ב-ראשית []

- In ב the beginning' ראשית

Should it be translated 'In the beginning' or just 'In beginning'? It can be understood either way.

The Greek language is precise and so the Greeks love to debate questions of precision. But Hebrew is more of a taste. [1]

The idea is that there was a transition between there only being God and there being God and his creation. We can refer to that idea as the instant the creation began, as the act of God beginning to create, or a a summary, as other formations will indicate.

  1. ± Ps 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD [is] good: blessed [is] the man [that] trusteth in him.
