ELTBefore Elohim אלהים
People often debate the meaning of *א Elohim* (אלהים), with some thinking it is singular and others seeing it as plural. When we are uncertain about the meaning of a word, we can examine its components to gain clarity.
- Elohim* (אלהים) can be understood as *אל* (El) "God" separated from *man* (ים) by *ignorance* (ה). Breaking it down:
- *אל* (El) represents "God,"
- *ים* (Yam) indicates "creation," and
- *ה* (He) symbolizes "ignorance," which separates God from man.
God's name reveals that He desires to be known. He is not looking to punish you every time you falter. Instead, He longs for you to learn about Him.
This is crucial: Your sin is not the primary focus of God's mind. He took care of that on the cross. What separates you now is your willful ignorance of Him. From before the beginning, the Lamb was slain... He made provision for sin even before creation. You did not surprise Him.
