Use a template of close reading questions to focus the attention of the student on details. Understand there are no right answers in the literal.


2. Identify boundaries of the pericope There is a beginning and end of the hidden pericope. Look for transitional statements, changes of ideas, story, character … Hypothesized scope of pericope 3. Identify hints of prophetic riddle It is all prophetic riddle. Hints draw you in. Oddities, contradictions, uncharacteristic things, symbols, word-play. List of questions for the text. 4. Identify and discern symbols Everything is a symbol Symbols are defined by words Symbols are related by proper allegory Use tools (dictionary, symbol list, …) Think like a child Have fun Follow the rules Working list of alternate meanings. 5. Identify the key Narrative pericopes have a key. B. The key is the symbol representing the cross Identify things before and after the cross Use the symbols appropriately Use the rules Definition of the cross Pattern workspace before and after. 6. Outline the pericope using patterns. Symbols are the connectors to the pattern

State the doctrine of the Invisible God The Son reveals the Father Summarize the teaching as to what we know about the Father through the Son. Follow the rules A new insight or confirmation of what we know of God.
