Formation - The vav []

Discussion

The distinct Vav

The vav is the "sword" of the word. It is a prefix meaning 'and'. Like 'and' it divides two things and connects them. [1] As a visual allegory, it looks like a sword. It indicates that there are two sides to an issue.

To understand ideas, we pull them apart and put them back together. This clarifies and distinguishes the meaning. It represents the word spoken into the void to separate God from his creation and pull them back together. [2]

  1. ± Heb 4:12 For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
  2. ± Ge 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Formation - The zayin []

Discussion

Zayin ז The Bride

The zayin is drawn up the left side of the Square Letter Template. It meets a yud at the top like a tiny 'T'. It differs from the vav ו which descends from a yod י. It is that which returns to God. Alone, or with other elements it usually describes the bride of Christ. The word zayin means 'prostitute'. The bride of Christ (the church) was a prostitute (sinner) that was made in to the virgin (pure bride). [v 1] [q 1]. [a 1]

Discussion

Questions

  1. Can you think of women in the Bible who represent (literally or figuratively) the virgin bride who was also a prostitute (Ex. Mary was pure, but her name means 'rebellious' and she had the gossip surrounding her of her being a prostitute)

Vocabulary

  1. zayin ז - prostitute, m. bride

Answers

  1. Rebekah was 'took' (married) by the servant and was uncovered with him before she saw Isaac. Leah represents the prostitute and Rachel the virgin. Gomer was a prostitute and she named her son "God sows" as a hint of the virgin birth.

Formation - The final nun []

Discussion

The nun נ represents the son of man. You see the vav ו in it, but then at the bottom, it has a short horizontal. The Word (vav) has become flesh (man). [1] In the final form the lower horizontal turns vertical and descends below the square text template. His flesh has died and put in the earth.

  1. ± Joh 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

ד ה ח ך

The meaning of each letter in the Dalet ד or Commandment Family has something to do with the commandment. The dalet ד representing the commandment, is found in each letter. There is the commandment ד, the commandment which was heard but not understood ה, and the commandment which was understood ח. The vav (or lack of it) distinguishes between them.

Discussion

Dalet ד the commandment []

The dalet ד is the commandment. It is not the rosh ר revelation. See the difference between the right angle corner on the dalet and the rounded corner on the rosh.

A commandment [1] accomplishes something. When God commanded the light to be, the waters to part, and the dry land to appear... they did. [2] This demonstrated that he was God. [3] Likewise when he commanded men with two tablets of stone [4], it displayed the character of God, and confronted the universal sin of man. [5] This demonstrated that he alone is God.

A revelation [6] is a communication from God intended as a dialog; it contains personality. "Let there be light" has no one to dialog with. "Thou shalt not covet" is also not up for discussion. If the purpose of God was to free an enslaved people, he would have commanded that they be free, they would have been free. But the purpose was to make himself known. Moses was free to dialog about it. [7] [8] [9] [10] When presented with a command, observe how God is revealed. When presented with a revelation; dialog with God.

  4. { ± Ex 24:12 And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.
  5. Universal sin of man
  6. Used as a technical term
  7. ± Ex 3:10,11 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. 11 And Moses said unto God, Who [am] I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
  8. ± Ex 3:13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, [when] I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What [is] his name? what shall I say unto them?
  9. ± Ex 4:1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee.

Discussion

Draw the he []

As you draw the he say "did not understand".

The he ה is drawn with a dalet ד as the commandment, then a vav returns halfway up the left side. The response is not a full response (not returning to the top) because the commandment is not understood. The Hebrews did not understand that the law was a schoolmaster [1] and the real meaning was a hidden prophecy of the death and resurrection of Jesus on the cross. [2] The response is like when sheep hear the shepherd's voice. [3] They are drawn to it, but they do not understand the words. }}

  1. ± Ga 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster [to bring us] unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
  2. ± Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, [and] not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
  3. ± Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

He means 'aha!' It is the response of recognition but not of understanding. [v 1] [q 1] [a 1] [q 2] [a 2]

Discussion

Questions

  1. How much does a sheep have to understand of what the shepherd says, to be his sheep?
  2. When does a sheep decide which shepherd to follow?

Vocabulary

  1. he ה - aha, m. to be drawn to God but not understanding, m. hearing

Answers

  1. None.
  2. Sheep are born to the shepherd who owns the flock. They hear his voice from birth.

Discussion

Chet ח they understood []

Discussion

When you draw the vav of the chet say, "understood" or "saw".

The chet is drawn like a he ה but the vav on the left returns all the way to the top. This represents that the commandment was understood. The meaning of chet is 'dismay', because when you really understand God's command, you are dismayed. [v 1] [q 1] [a 1] [q 2] [a 2] [1] Dismay is terror. When people met the Holy God they fell on their faces. [2] [3] [4] [5]

  1. It is not being suggested that the Gospel of Thomas is scripture, only that the author was familiar with prophetic riddle.
  2. ± Ge 17:3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,
  3. ± Nu 22:31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.
  4. ± Jos 5:14 And he said, Nay; but [as] captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
  5. ± Mt 17:6 And when the disciples heard [it], they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.

The chet ח symbol represents life in many cultures. They may pronounce it chee. Understanding is represented by seeing. One cannot understand (see) the teaching of Christ (the kingdom) unless he has been born again. [1] Understanding is a sign of the beginning of life.

  1. ± Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Discussion

Questions

  1. Why does understanding the commandment cause dismay?
  2. The Gospel of Thomas (2) says, ... The one who seeks should not cease seeking until he finds. And when he finds, he will be dismayed... Could the chet be the source of Thomas's riddle?

Vocabulary

  1. chet ח or חת - dismay, m. understood, seeing

Answers

  1. The holiness of the law confronts your sin.
  2. It is a good exercise to read the Gospel of Thomas in the genre of prophetic riddle or sensus plenior, since he shares many of the same riddles which are mistakenly interpreted to be literal and so are mis-identified as Gnostic

Final kof ך []

Discussion

As you draw the final kof say, "The Son of God died".

The final kof ך is the form used when a kof כ is at the end of a word. We examined the kof כ when we discussed the nun נ. The nun נ is the Son of Man, and the kof כ is the Son of God; fully God and fully man by nature, as indicated by the long horizontal vav's.

Kof כף means 'spoon' or 'palm of the hand' and the final form ך signifies the Son of God died according to the commandment (which is why it looks like a large dalet ד). [v 1] [q 1] [a 1] [1]

  1. ± Isa 49:16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of [my] hands; thy walls [are] continually before me.

Discussion

Questions

  1. Consider in light of the final work of the Son of God: "Isa 49:16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of [my] hands; thy walls [are] continually before me." How secure are you?

Vocabulary

  1. final kof ך - palm of the hand, m. last work, the Son of God died

Answers

  1. Graven into his works.

חד sharpen []

chad חד

Discussion

Interpreting word formations is not as simple as merely replacing the letters with a meaning. Such replacement forms a riddle which is answered by scripture.

'Sharpen' chad חד is formed as 'understand ח the command ד'. It is not easy to see the connection between the two. But God says the same thing in different ways until we understand. He has given another clue to the connection in the verse:

± Pr 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

Now we understand how to sharpen our friends better. To improve the countenance of the friend, we help them understand God's commands. 'Command' is used in a technical sense as that which God makes God known as he says and it happens... no discussion. We would remind our friend that God spoke and as a result of his command, the universe sprang into existence. We might also confront his sin and bring hope for a changed life based on God's mercy and power in overcoming sin.

Without the underlying meaning of chad we are left to guess as to how we sharpen one another.

The nun - Son of Man Family is based on variations on the nun and they all relate to the Son of Man.

Nun נ The Son of Man []

Discussion

The nun נ is a vav with a yod off the bottom like the gimel ג except the yod is horizontal. The word nun means 'fish' and it represents the Son of Man. [v 1] In Greek the fish represents "Jesus Messiah God's Son Savior" as an anagram.

When you draw the nun say, "The Son of Man".

The nun נ stands in contrast to the kof כ, which represents the Son of God. The difference is the length of the horizontals. The kof says that the Son of God was fully God and fully man by nature. The nun says that the Son of Man was partially God and partially man by choice. He chose to limit himself by the flesh [1] in order to be qualified to be our high priest [2] [q 1] [a 1] [q 2] [a 2]

  1. ± Php 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
  2. ± Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin.

Ayin ע tempted in the flesh []

Discussion

As you draw the ayin say, "Tempted in the flesh".

Spot the nun in the ayin ע as the long stroke from the right to the left. See the lower yod י of the nun נ has been extended to a vav ו. The zayin ז pulls it away from the lower right corner. That corner is known as 'the point of the cross', since it is where the love of God, the right vertical, meets man, the lower horizontal.

Ayin ען means 'humilation' and 'depravity' and it represents the flesh. Here we see the Son of Man nun נ being distracted from the cross. In his own flesh, he does not want to die. [1] He was tempted to avoid the cross by finding another way to be with the bride than by dying [2], hence the distraction by the zayin ז bride. [v 1] [q 1] [a 1]

  1. ± Lu 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
  2. ± Mt 4:3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

Tsadi צ exchanged his righteousness []

Discussion

He tsadi צ is drawn like an ayin ע but leaning the other way, with the burden of the creation (a yod י) on his back. This time the letter goes into the point of the cross (lower right corner).

Tsadi צד means 'provision'. It is the provision of righteousness that Christ offered his creation on the cross. [1] Where the ayin ע was the bearing of sin, the tsadi is the gift of righteousness through his death. When you draw the tsadi say, "He gave his righteousness". [v 1]

Shin ש The Spirit enabled the Word to have an increase []

Discussion

The shin ש is also an elongated nun indicating the action is by both the Son of Man and the Son of God. From the leftmost point of the lower horizontal vav , a zayin ז returns, and from it's side another zayin ז returns.

The word shin שן means 'ivory' which is a symbol for holiness in it's whiteness. The Word of God descended and became flesh (the nun) but was restored to glory (the lower horizontal vav) then returned with his bride (the two zayins).

As a metaphor, the shin can represent that the word did not return void [1] or the marriage where the bride comes from the side of Christ [2] or the Spirit which gives life to the bride so that she can marry [3] [q 1] [a 1] [q 2] [a 2] [q 3] [a 3] [v 1]

  1. ± Isa 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper [in the thing] whereto I sent it.
  2. ± Ge 2:22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
  3. ± Joh 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life.

Final tsadi ץ Judgement ended []

Discussion

The final tsadi is drawn as a final nun ן with a zayin ז attached on the right side. Normally, in other letters, the zayin is on the left side of the Square Text Template. Finding it on the right suggests that the bride has not yet been made holy. The final nun is the death of the Son of Man. Together -- while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us[1].

The tsadi צ represented the righteousness of Christ. As he was tempted in every way that we are, yet did not sin, [2] he judged us by removing all of our excuses for sin. The final tsadi ץ represents the cross, and almost looks like one, where the judge is put to death. If there is no judge, there is no judgment. We now live in grace.

As you draw the final tsadi ץ say, "Judgement ended". [v 1]

  1. ± Ro 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

The rosh ר was part of the vav - Word Extended Family as a vav ו extended with a horizontal vav on the top. It also starts it's own family. All members of this family are related to the rosh as revelation. [q 1] [a 1]

The 'rosh' (sometimes 'resh') suggests that heavenly or spiritual things come to earth (right side ) in love. The curved corner is different from the right angle of the dalet ד. There are many kinds of revelation, but we use the term in a technical way. It is a revelation which you may discuss things with. The kof כ is drawn like a bet ב but it transitions to the lower vav with a curve, suggesting that the revelation has become man. It represents the Son of God. We spoke of it in contrast to the nun נ which is the Son of Man.

The meaning of kof כף is 'palm of a hand, or cup. In formation it means - The Son of God כ hidden in mystery, riddle, parable, prophecy and/or metaphor ף of his death. [v 1] Jesus asked to have the cup removed. [1] We understand that he was asking to not have to face his death. Some teach that the cup represents wrath, but it must mean the same thing everywhere. There are several Hebrew words for 'cup', but in this case we know more precisely that the death of the Son of God was hidden in mystery; in the cup. [q 1] [a 1]

The kof will have a family of it's own.

  1. ± Lu 22:42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

Formation - Tov []

Tov ת It is finished. When you draw the Tov say. "Finished with a new life".

Discussion

The tov is drawn as a rosh then finished with a vav spontaneously generated on the bottom left (no connection to the rosh) and the returning in holiness to God up the left side. The meaning is that the revelation completed it's work with a new word (vav) spontaneously returning to God. This is the genuine praise of God by his people. [q 1] [a 1] [1]

The meaning of tov is 'mark' or 'record'. [v 1] It is the last letter of the alphabet, but not the last letter of the number sequence. As you draw the tov you can say, "It is finished". [2] [3]

The Son of God בר ''bar'' and the increase רב ''rab'' [bar_and_the_increase_רב_rab]

Discussion

The revelation to man ב of the revelation ר is the 'son' bar בר, but more specifically, the Son of God. He is the unbegotten only Son of God, which speaks of his eternal nature. [v 1]

Traversing the gate in the opposite direction produces some sense of the reversal of meaning. Rab רב is the revelation ר of the house ב. Here the emphasis is on the rosh revelation which produces an increase. rab רב means 'increase' indicated by the house/family created by the revelation. [v 2]

It may seem confusing that we used the bet ב as 'revelation to man' sometimes, and as 'house' other times. They are part of the same metaphor. In this case, the bar בר could be expressed as the 'house of revelation' meaning the 'family of revelation'. The Son is the head of his household. [1] His family are the 'sons of God' who also reveal the invisible God by teaching of Christ. It's simply a matter of which makes the better dynamic equivalent in the current context.

The church is the ultimate revelation of the Word of God, or revelation of God, since it is in their obedience of faith that we find the essential nature of the Kingdom of Heaven. [2]

  1. ± Heb 3:6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
  2. ± Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for [the kingdom], the evidence of things not seen [the kingdom].

''Bet'' ב or בת or בית vs ''bethah'' בתה [Bet_ב_or_בת_or_בית_vs_bethah_בתה ∞]

Discussion

As God teaches his language, he says things in different ways until we understand. Each expression of bet says the same thing in a slightly different way.

The letter bet is the foundation. It is a revelation to man.

The gate bat or bath has the added meaning that the revelation was successful and it produced a new life. Compare to the shin ש which says that the new life returned with the Word which produced it. The word bath is also a liquid measure. Measuring is a metaphor for judging. Water is a metaphor for the word. It suggests that the word of God is judged by it's result of a new life being produced.

Add a yod in the middle of bet בית and now it is focused on the fact of the new life, the the creation yod י in the house.

Bethah has the added he ה which symbolizes that the beth doesn't understand. How is the word judged in this case? The word bethah בתה means 'desolate'. the house has not been fruitful. [v 1]
