Challenge: Morse Code Message Decoding (15 minutes)

Overview: Students will learn the basics of Morse Code and attempt to decode a short message. This activity fosters pattern recognition, focus, and practice.

Materials Needed:

   Printed or digital Morse Code chart.
   Simple Morse Code message (e.g., "Hello" or "Teamwork").
   Writing tools and paper for notes.

Steps:

   Introduction (3 minutes):
       Briefly explain Morse Code, its history, and its purpose.
       Show the Morse Code chart and demonstrate how letters are encoded with a couple of examples (e.g., A = ".-", B = "-...").
   Practice (4 minutes):
       Decode a couple of short words as a class, using the chart.
       Show students how to "chunk" dots and dashes into letters.
   Challenge (6 minutes):
       Provide a short encoded message (e.g., "Hello" or "Teamwork") for students to decode individually or in pairs.
       Encourage them to work through the message methodically.
   Reflection (2 minutes):
       Discuss what strategies helped with decoding.
       Talk about persistence and how trial and error helps improve skills.
