Queen mother

Queen mother []

A Catholic priest gave two references in scripture to claim that Mary as the Mother of Jesus is the one to approach to make appeals to Christ on our behalf. It serves us well to look at them in a time when there is a push to reform the Catholic church as the only church.

The first claim is that Bathsheba making a request of Solomon demonstrates that it was an established tradition that the Queen mother held sway over her son. (I Kings 2: 19 - 20)

We should note the following:

1. One instance does not establish a pattern or custom.
2. The request was made from a half-brother whom she helped depose. There is no matching correlation to Mary to depose us, it is the Holy Spirit who convicts of sin.
3. The request was to take Abishag as a bride. This was a hidden message to his intent: Father 'abi' אבי has erred 'shag' שג. He is declaring that David chose wrongly in appointing Solomon as king. If this is a prophecy of Mary, then apparently she would declare to Christ that he is not the king on behalf of Adonijah ( my Lord אדני is clearly ו misunderstood ה).
4. Soloman's response confirms this: ± 1Ki 2:22 And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother, And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also ...
5. Solomon did not comply with the request: 1Ki 2:24 []
Now therefore, [as] the LORD liveth, which hath established me, and set me on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me an house, as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.

Why did Jesus comply with Mary at the wedding at Cana? Hebrew children were raised by their mothers until coming of age, when training passed to the father.

1. Prior to the wedding Jesus stayed with his mother.
2. After the wedding Jesus had no place to stay.
3. Before the wedding, it was not yet his time.
4. After the wedding, it was his time. He started his ministry and went to Jerusalem to take possession of his inheritance from the Father; the temple.
5. The happenings at the wedding were the spiritual weaning from his mother being his authority, to his Father being his authority.

Mary made the request of Jesus because she knew it was his time, and her time to pass him to his Father. She had insights into the 'mystery hidden from the beginning'. Jesus was coming of age, realizing he was God in the flesh, as prophesied. He did not wrestle with this alone. He was unsure whether to judge the world or give it grace.

You make wine (grace) from water (the word made of grace and judgement) by removing the judgement. As Elisha had removed the ax (judgment) from the stream, Jesus (the Word) removed judgement from his heart, and chose to give grace. The Father had set the stage. Jesus walked into it to show the Father he understood and would comply. The Father gave the miracle to encourage him toward the cross.

The request Mary made was not on behalf of others. There were many people in need. Was she heartless toward the needy and only cared about a party? Notice, she was not asked by anyone to make the request. She took the initiative. This is not a model for praying to Mary. It was made to effect the weaning of Jesus.
