- Active Compound: Artemisinin and thujone are active compounds in wormwood, which are toxic to certain parasites, disrupting their metabolism and causing their death.
2. Black Walnut Hull
Alternate Name: Juglans nigra
Uses:
- The green hulls of black walnuts have strong anti-parasitic properties, especially against roundworms, tapeworms, and pinworms.
- Active Compound: Juglone, an alkaloid compound, has been shown to have anti-parasitic, antifungal, and antibacterial effects.

Uses:
- Clove has both anti-parasitic and antimicrobial properties. It helps eliminate parasites by killing their eggs and larvae.
- Active Compound: Eugenol is the primary active compound, which has antimicrobial and anti-parasitic properties.
4. Papaya Seeds
Uses:
- Papaya seeds contain enzymes that are believed to help expel intestinal parasites, especially tapeworms and roundworms.
- Active Compound: Papain, a protease enzyme, helps break down proteins, making it easier for the body to expel parasites.
5. Garlic
Alternate Name: Allium sativum
Uses:
- Garlic is a well-known natural anti-parasitic, particularly effective against intestinal parasites like roundworms, giardia, and hookworms.
- Active Compound: Allicin is the key active ingredient, responsible for garlic’s antimicrobial, anti-fungal, and anti-parasitic effects.
6. Diatomaceous Earth
Uses:
- Diatomaceous earth is a fine powder made from the fossilized remains of diatoms. It is used to kill internal parasites, as it physically scrapes the exoskeletons of parasites, causing them to dehydrate and die.
- Active Compound: Diatomaceous earth is composed primarily of silica, which acts abrasively against the exoskeletons of parasites.
7. Pumpkin Seeds
Uses:
- Pumpkin seeds are often used as a natural remedy to expel intestinal worms. They contain compounds that paralyze the worms, allowing them to be flushed out of the intestines.
- Active Compound: Cucurbitacin, a compound found in pumpkin seeds, is believed to disrupt the nervous system of worms, helping to expel them.

- Active Compound: Carvacrol is a powerful anti-parasitic compound found in oregano oil, which can kill parasites and disrupt their life cycles.
10. Coconut Oil
Uses:
- Coconut oil contains medium-chain fatty acids, especially lauric acid, that have anti-parasitic properties. It’s effective in killing intestinal parasites like giardia and roundworms.
- Active Compound: Lauric acid is the main active ingredient in coconut oil, with antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-parasitic effects.
General Considerations
- Dosage and Usage: The effectiveness of natural dewormers often depends on proper dosage and the specific type of parasite being treated. It's best to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any natural deworming treatment, especially for severe infestations.
- Caution: Although these natural remedies are generally safe, they can interact with other medications or cause allergic reactions in some individuals. Always monitor for side effects such as nausea, dizziness, or abdominal discomfort.
