Name-Value (Number of the Letter’s Name)
Definition (8th-grade level):
This meaning comes from adding up the numbers of the letters that spell the name of a letter. For example, the name of the letter ג (Gimel) is spelled גמל, and each of those letters has a number. When you add them together, you get a new number.
You include this for research, especially because Revelation talks about the number of a name (like 666). But it’s hard to use reliably because:
- There are different ways to spell the names of letters
- The meanings don’t always connect clearly
Still, it’s worth watching for patterns or confirmations.
That gives us 9 total subcategories under Letter Identity Meaning:
- Single Letter Meaning
- Alphabetic Order
- Sequential Narrative
- Thematic Emphasis (Repetition)
- First / Final Letter of Word
- Contrast or Substitution
- Gematria (Numerical Value of letter itself)
