Elihu as the Voice of the King
Elihu declares:
- God is just and does not pervert justice (Job 34:10-12). → This reflects Christ's submission to the Father's justice on the cross, accepting that righteousness must be fulfilled (Matthew 3:15).
- God repays a man according to his ways (Job 34:11). → Christ, though innocent, bears the judgment for humanity, taking on the repayment due for sin (Isaiah 53:5).
- God does not need to explain Himself (Job 34:29). → At the cross, Christ does not demand an explanation but submits to the Father's will (Luke 22:42).
- If God withdraws His Spirit, all flesh perishes (Job 34:14-15). → This echoes Christ’s dependence on the Father and the Spirit, even as He gives up His own spirit (John 19:30).
Job (Christ) Listening to the Judge’s Voice
- As the Suffering Servant, Christ listens to the voice of the Judge, accepting the justice of God.
- In the Garden of Gethsemane and at the cross, Christ submits to divine judgment, recognizing that the Father's justice must be fulfilled.
- Elihu’s speech mirrors how Christ discerns and fulfills God's righteous judgment, not resisting but embracing the divine plan.
Conclusion
If Job is a type of Christ, then Elihu's role as the voice of the King reinforces Christ’s submission to divine justice. Christ does not resist judgment but fulfills it, listening to the Father's decree and enduring the suffering necessary to accomplish salvation. (Kings are the executives of justice)
