Loss of first love []

Discussion

Before the end of the first century the church had started to deify Mary. [1]

When Israel met God on the mountain, they immediately formed a golden calf. [2]

  1. ± Re 2:4 Nevertheless I have [somewhat] against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
  2. ± Ex 32:24 And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break [it] off. So they gave [it] me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.

Nicolaitans []

Discussion

Conquerors of the laity []

During the time of Eli, the high priest, his sons lorded their position over the people, even stealing the offerings from the pot. [1]

Though the priests were allowed to eat some sacrifices, they were taking that which was not theirs. Certainly pastors are allowed to get paid, as the priests were allowed to eat. But the position is of service, not of lordship. The pastor is not any more of a priest than the rest of the church, which is a nation of kings and priests. [2]

  1. ± 1Sa 2:12-14 Now the sons of Eli [were] sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD. 13. And the priests’ custom with the people [was, that], when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand; 14. And he struck [it] into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.
  2. ± Re 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Control of scripture []

Initially, the first priests controlled access to the relatively rare copies of the scripture.

When the Gutenberg press made copies available to all, they discouraged reading it by the myth that only trained experts, the priests, could properly read it. They narrowed it further by saying only a committee of priests could interpret it, and that papal declarations were infallible no matter how senseless they were.

The Reformers said that all men could read the Bible for themselves and were responsible for interpreting it. So the Jesuit priest Loyola started to teach that Faith and Science were seperate realms. The Universities were set up to teach secular truth, while pushing divine truth to the side.

Since people came up with their own interpretations, often contradictiong each other, small offshoots of the Reformation established their own popes who declared which doctrines were true.

At the end of the 20th Century, there was so much confusion among denominations, that a group of theologians, scholars and pastors declared themselves to be the priests of Evangelicalism and produced the Chicago Statements as the standard of Biblical truth.

Control of education []

The teachers of children are taught by those who control the universities. The main thing they learn is that God is a fairy tale you can believe if you want, but science is the real god. The seeds of rationalism planted by Loyola have borne fruit.

Entertainment []

Diaries of early Jesuits contain the proud bragging of how they supported or overthrew governments by theater. The masses were easily brainwashed to do their will through the stage.

Nicolaitans (conquerors of the laity) come in many flavors. The first shows up in John's letter when a self appointed leader of a church would not allow John to visit. The Greek philosophy and mythology was already being imposed on the church and John threatened that by proper Biblical exegesis (interpretation).

Under the guise of protecting scripture, Nicolaitans created a canon and did not allow access to it for average people for 1200 years.

Reformers did not remove them. High church denominations retained priesthoods with a distinction between clergy and laity.

Baptists attempted to rid themselves of it by saying local churches were autonomous. Some baptist denominations now use particular seminary credentials as their priesthood vestment. Independent and COC churches re-established a form of it through 'dis-fellowshipping' and enforcing their own traditions.

Evangelicals have their own psudo-formal establishment through self-appointed priests of the Chicago confessions. Even in a local church, an elder may become the lord rather than the servant.

It is difficult for us sinners to avoid the temptations of establishing authority over one another.

Recently a colorful, but ignorant King James Only priest would have burned me at the stake if there were such things as e-matches. When others displayed the self-refuting position of KJO she turned on me by quoting me out of context and completely reversing what I had said. The justification was to protect the others in the group from my heresies. If she had actually addressed what I had said, it would be fair game. But it was obviously a personal thing having been embarrassed by her KJO position.

As much as I would love to start a new cult, I find it difficult when I teach not to follow men but to hear from God yourself in a way that is valid and reproducible; that is: in a scientific way. It kinda takes me out of the limelight. lol

Some people find it dangerous to teach how to think for yourself and commune with God yourself. They are called 'Nicolaitans'.

Judaisers []

Discussion

The Hebrews believed they must accomplish works to please God. This is a subtle source of one side of Gnosticism. If the flesh is evil and the spirit good, some Gnostics thought they must perform works to redeem the flesh. The earliest contention concerned circumcision. [1]

  1. ± Ac 15:1 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, [and said], Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
