Discussion hints: ELTBefore Hei ה []

Hei as Symbolizing Spiritual Blindness and Partial Understanding

  1. Why do you think people might have trouble fully understanding God?
    • People might struggle to fully understand God because His ways are so much greater and deeper than ours. We might focus only on what we can see or understand, but God sees the bigger picture that we can’t always comprehend.
  2. Imagine seeing only part of a picture—how does that relate to the idea of ה (He) showing incomplete understanding of God’s truths?
    • If we only see part of a picture, we might misunderstand what it’s really about. In the same way, when we don’t see the full truth of God’s plans, we might misinterpret what He’s doing in our lives or the world around us.
  3. How do you think God helps people move from partial understanding to seeing the whole truth?
    • God helps us grow in understanding through the Bible, prayer, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Over time, He reveals more of His truth to us as we seek Him and trust Him.

Connection to Deception and the Flesh

  1. In the Garden of Eden, Eve was deceived by what looked and felt good. Can you think of times when something seemed good but turned out to be wrong?
    • For example, we might think skipping responsibilities to play games or hang out is fun, but later realize it causes problems. Things that seem good at the moment can sometimes have bad consequences.
  2. Why do you think people sometimes choose what feels good instead of what is right? How does this connect to spiritual blindness?
    • People might choose what feels good because it’s easier or more enjoyable in the moment. This happens when we’re focused on ourselves instead of God’s truth. Spiritual blindness keeps us from seeing what’s really best for us in the long run.
  3. How can we tell the difference between what is true and what might deceive us?
    • We can tell the difference by asking God for wisdom, reading the Bible, and thinking about whether something matches God’s Word. Talking to wise, godly people can also help us make good choices.

Jesus as the Light That Overcomes Spiritual Blindness

  1. Jesus said He is the light of the world and came to help the spiritually blind see. What do you think it means to be "spiritually blind"?
    • Being spiritually blind means not understanding who God is, what He’s done for us, or how to live in His truth. It’s like being in darkness, unable to find the right path.
  2. Why is Jesus called the “light”? How does light help us see things we couldn’t before?
    • Jesus is called the light because He shows us the truth about God and leads us out of sin and confusion. Just like light helps us see what’s hidden in the dark, Jesus helps us understand what’s real and good in life.
  3. How can following Jesus help us see and understand things more clearly in our lives?
    • Following Jesus helps us understand what’s important and what’s not. He shows us how to make good choices, trust God, and love others. His Word and example guide us to live in truth and peace.

Spiritual Blindness and the Role of the Flesh

  1. The Bible talks about the “flesh” leading people away from God’s truth. What do you think “flesh” means here?
    • The “flesh” means our natural desires that focus on selfish things or what feels good, instead of what God wants for us.
  2. Why do you think the Bible warns us about the struggles between the flesh and the Spirit?
    • The Bible warns us because the flesh often leads us to make choices that hurt us or others, while the Spirit helps us follow God’s will. This struggle can pull us away from God if we don’t rely on Him.
  3. Can you think of ways to rely on God when it’s hard to see the truth because of distractions or temptations?
    • We can rely on God by praying for strength, reading the Bible for guidance, and asking for help from trusted Christian friends or leaders. Worship and focusing on God’s promises can also remind us of His truth.
