Dan 7:2 []

📖 Dan 7:2  Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.

The Story of Christ in Daniel 7:2

"Daniel spoke and said, I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea."

The Vision as the Story of Christ

Daniel sees a vision by night, which signifies mystery, hidden truth, and revelation—a theme often seen in Scripture. This sets the stage for the unveiling of Christ in a way that was not immediately understood but later revealed.

"The four winds of the heaven"

  • Four represents the Word of God, delivered through four voices: prophet, judge, priest, and king.
  • Winds (רוחות) are often symbolic of God’s Spirit, movement, and divine activity.
  • Heaven (שמים) is the dwelling of God, the place of divine origin.

The Spirit of God moves through His Word, revealing Christ in four ways:

  1. The Prophet—declaring the Word of God.
  2. The Judge—executing righteousness.
  3. The Priest—interceding for mankind.
  4. The King—ruling over all creation.

Christ embodies all four voices, for He is the Word made flesh (John 1:14).

"Strove upon the great sea"

  • The sea represents humanity, the nations, and the depths of mystery. It is the world in its chaos, troubled and restless, just as Genesis 1:2 describes the waters before creation.
  • The Spirit of God (winds) moves over the sea, just as in Genesis, where the Spirit hovered over the waters before God spoke light into existence.

This foreshadows Christ, who is the Light of the world, stepping into the chaos of humanity to bring order, truth, and salvation.

Christ in the Vision

  • The Word of God (four winds) moves over humanity (sea), revealing Christ in His prophetic, judicial, priestly, and kingly roles.
  • Christ, the eternal Word, enters the chaos of fallen man to bring peace, redemption, and revelation.
  • Just as the Spirit moved upon the waters in Genesis, Christ—the Word and the Spirit—comes to calm the storm, heal the broken, and establish His kingdom.

Conclusion

Daniel 7:2 is a picture of Christ’s coming into the world. It reveals:

  • His identity as the fulfillment of the Word (four winds).
  • His mission to enter into humanity’s chaos (the sea).
  • His power over all things, bringing peace, justice, and redemption.

This sets the stage for the beasts to emerge, each revealing another layer of who Christ is and what He accomplishes.
