Historic Creeds That Summarize These Themes
- Nicene Creed (325 AD, revised 381 AD)
- Affirms Jesus as the Son of God, the visible revelation of the invisible Father, and emphasizes His role in revealing divine truths.
- Speaks of Christ’s incarnation, suffering, and teaching.
- Apostles’ Creed (Early Church)
- Expresses belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, who came in the flesh to reveal God’s kingdom.
- Chalcedonian Definition (451 AD)
- Highlights the dual nature of Christ (fully God and fully man), reflecting the hidden (divine) and visible (earthly) aspects of revelation.
- Athanasian Creed (5th–6th Century)
- Emphasizes Christ’s divine and human nature and the mystery of His teaching.
Proposed Creed: The Revelation of the Hidden Word
- We believe in the Son of God, who speaks in parables, revealing the mysteries of the kingdom to those with ears to hear. Matthew 13:10-11; Matthew 13:34-35
- We believe that He made known the hidden things of old, bringing forth treasures both new and old. Matthew 13:35; Matthew 13:52
- We confess that He taught in riddles and dark sayings, that seeing, many would not perceive, and hearing, many would not understand. Luke 8:10; Mark 4:11-12
- We affirm that in Him, the invisible God was made known, as He spoke of heavenly things through earthly signs. John 16:25; John 1:18
- We believe that His words, though veiled in mystery, were given to be revealed at the appointed time. John 16:12-13; Colossians 1:26-27
