Historic Creed Summaries

The theme of Jesus being fully God and fully man is central to historic Christian creeds:

  1. The Nicene Creed (325/381 AD)
    • Explicitly affirms that Jesus is "God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God," emphasizing His divinity.
    • Declares that He "became incarnate from the Virgin Mary and was made man," underscoring His full humanity.
  2. The Chalcedonian Definition (451 AD)
    • Defines Christ as "one person in two natures, without confusion, without change, without division, without separation."
    • This creed directly addresses the mystery of Jesus being both fully divine and fully human, making it the closest parallel to the כ (Kaf) theme.
  3. The Athanasian Creed (5th–6th Century AD)
    • States that "the Son is of the Father alone, not made nor created, but begotten."
    • Emphasizes that Jesus, while fully divine, also took on human flesh.
  4. The Apostles' Creed (Early Church)
    • Though not as detailed, it affirms Jesus’ divine sonship, His birth, death, and resurrection, which all relate to His dual nature.

These creeds collectively encapsulate the doctrine that Jesus is both fully God and fully man, which aligns with the כ (Kaf) symbolism of Christ’s divine-human nature.

Proposed Creed: The Son of God, Fully Divine and Fully Human

  1. We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God,
    • Who was in the beginning with God,
    • And was God, the eternal Word,
    • By whom all things were made.
  2. We believe that He took on flesh,
    • Being born of a woman,
    • Fully God and fully man,
    • Revealing the glory of the Father.
  3. We believe that He humbled Himself,
    • Taking the form of a servant,
    • Obedient to death, even death on a cross,
    • That through His suffering and resurrection,
    • He would break the power of death.
  4. We believe that in Him dwells the fullness of Deity,
    • That He and the Father are one,
    • And that through Him, we are made new.
  5. We believe that He reigns as the risen Son,
    • Exalted at the right hand of the Father,
    • And that His name is above every name,
    • That all creation will bow before Him.

Amen.
