CE: John’s Appearance
🐪 John the Baptist Wore a Clue!
How His Clothes and Food Told a Hidden Story
🧥 What Did John Wear and Eat?
In the book of Mark, we read this about John the Baptist:
“John wore clothes made of camel’s hair. He had a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey.” (Mark 1:6)
That might sound weird—but it was a clue!
John was wearing and eating things that told a secret story about who he was and what God was doing.
🧩 What Were the Clues?
John’s clothes and food point to someone very important in the Bible…
🔥 Elijah the Prophet!
Elijah also:
- Wore hairy clothes
- Had a leather belt
- Spoke boldly for God in the wilderness
That’s how people knew John was like Elijah—the one who came before Jesus to get everyone ready!
✨ Four Things, Four Clues
John didn’t just wear special clothes…
He also ate two unusual things: locusts and honey.
So now we have four items:
- Camel’s hair clothes
- Leather belt
- Locusts
- Wild honey
Why four?
Because in the Bible, God often speaks in four ways:
- As a Prophet (He teaches truth)
- As a Priest (He helps us come close to God)
- As a King (He rules with love)
- As a Judge (He tells what’s right and wrong)
John’s outfit is like a puzzle showing all four ways God speaks!
🧠 So What’s the Big Idea?
John the Baptist wasn’t just dressing funny and eating bugs for no reason.
He was acting out a message—like a walking riddle!
His whole look was saying:
“God is about to do something amazing! Get ready for Jesus!”
