Advent Dec 8 - Lk 1:32-35

Advent Dec 8 - Lk 1:32-35 []

± Lk 1:32-35 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Compare to:

± Ge 38:18 And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that [is] in thine hand. And he gave [it] her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

Tamar representing Mary (do you see the shared root of 'mar'?) Mary and Tamar both wanted an assurance of the promise.

Mary was told he would be the Son of God. Tamar received a signet ring.

Mary was told the power of the Highest would overshadow her. Tamar received the rod.

Mary was told it was a holy thing with in her. Tamar received bracelets; doilies to keep a vessel clean.

Mary was told he would inherit the throne of David. Tamar's son received the inheritance of Judah from whom David received the inheritance.

Mary was told he would save his people from their sin; words used of the scape-goat. Tamar was told Judah would send/sow the goat.
