▸ ± Lu 2:24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
turtledove 'towr' תור - same word as bull, ox
pigeon, dove 'yonah' יונה - same as Jonah.
Whenever you have two things closely associated, one represents something in the flesh, the other in the spirit.
A normal burnt offering is of an ox. You can see that the gift size is not an issue, but the heart. The turtledove has the same name as the ox. The poor can also participate.
They can choose between the 'ox' or the dove. One represents the flesh, the other the spirit. Many of the sacrifices have options of either. Sheep and goats were interchangeable.
The offering is of two. One of the flesh, the other represents the spirit. In the burnt offering, the one offering does not participate, no one gets to eat it. It is totally consumed by fire.
Jonah was the 'burnt offering' that was totally consumed by the fish (word of God).
This represents Jesus's total devotion to the father. We can only observe in awe.
