Advent Dec 13 - Lk 1:75-76

Advent Dec 13 - Lk 1:75-76 []

± Lu 1:75 [That he would grant unto us,] [might serve him without fear,] In holiness and righteousness before him [Lord God of Israel], all the days of our life.

± Lu 1:76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

Should we doubt that Jesus is God, he is proclaimed as such in pronouns and euphemisms. 'him refers back to the Lord God of Israel, and the 'Highest' is God himself.

There is a premonition of the gift of holiness and righteousness, that it is not of works.

He would grant unto us, holiness and righteousness. We do not work for it. It is a gift from God.

It is easy to pass over these things as mere poetry. But every word is there for a purpose.
