אבן (Even), meaning stone or rock, can be seen as a contraction of אב-בן (Father-Son) when understood metaphorically.

  • אב (Father): Represents the source or beginning, the initiator of creation.
  • בן (Son): Represents the offspring, the one who comes from the father and continues the legacy or fulfills the work.

Metaphorical Interpretation: אב-בן as Indivisible

The relationship between אב (Father) and בן (Son) is indivisible. The Father and Son are inseparable, with the Son coming from the Father. They are one in essence, working together in unity. However, in this metaphorical sense, we see the Son is split at the cross—a point of ultimate separation. Even though they are inseparable in essence, the Son takes on the separation to fulfill the redemptive work.

אבן as the Stone:

  • Stone (אבן) symbolizes something solid, enduring, and unbreakable. The stone reflects stability, but also the idea of separation or sacrifice—the Son’s separation at the cross to complete His mission of redemption.

This interpretation ties אבן (stone) to the concept of אב-בן (Father-Son), with the stone representing the enduring, unbreakable essence of their relationship, while also symbolizing the splitting of the Father and Son at the cross.
