ELTB CC Preface

ELTB CC Preface []

When Jesus said that you must be like a little child to enter the kingdom or teaching, it is a parallel saying to those of the old and new wine, and the old and new cloth.

Wine represents grace. The old way to receive grace was through the ritual sacrifices which did not produce actual grace, but a promise of grace. They were not saved by the blood of animals; they were a promise of the blood of Christ.

Clothing represents works. The Hebrews did the old works of the law like actors playing a role to teach us of Christ. We learn from their 'theater' but are not bound to the script as they were. The new works of Christ are those based in the law of Love; Love God and love your neighbor.

To be 'like a little child' means that we do not rely upon our old understanding. We come fresh to the word of God to be taught new things. The one who thinks he already knows, cannot learn.

To the parent This work is written for a parent to engage with the child. It introduces foundational principles for interpreting scripture. It also enables a discussion of character traits without the child being the focus of reproach. My hope is that it draws you into discussions with your child while giving you a new view of the Bible.
