Balaamisms []

Balaam ( ± Numbers 22-31 ) was a prophet who was hired to curse Israel so thet the enenemy king; Balak, could conquer them. Each time he tried, God controlled his mouth and he blessed them. [1]

Finally he told Balak that to conquer them, he would have to make them get God angry at them. He suggested that party girls be sent in, and when they had sinned, God would no longer protect them. The rouse was used to separate them from God.

The first time a rouse was used for this purpose was by teh serpent in the garden. "Did God really say?" was sufficient to allow the wickedness in the heart of Eve [2] to take control.

John warns us against the doctrine of Balaam. The doctrine might be stated as "Seed doubts in the Word so that your enemies do not trust God and get blessed by him." The Jews believed they were inoculated against their Balaamisms because they were the chosen people.
