The lapwing is known for the irregular pattern of beating it’s wings. Flap-flap- - flap - flap, flap, flap. It is an ‘irregular beating’.

In Exodus we see that God commanded Moses to strike the rock for water the first time. The second time he told him to speak to it, but Moses disobeyed God and struck it again. Moses gave the rock an irregular (or at the wrong time) beating. He forfeited the privilege of entering into the promised land. [1]

The irregular flight of the lapwing will be up and down. Some people are happy and sad and happy again at odd times. A steady flapping or ‘moving through the air or spirit’ will help keep your life smooth. We do this by talking with Jesus about everything. When we trust him, and share with him, we don’t have to worry. We can fly on a steady path.
