Day One - God's character

The Bible teaches that God is the creator. He is holy, meaning he is completely different from us. He is also love. When a young friend heard this, he exclaimed, “Wait! That’s impossible! Holy is separate and Love is together!” I explained that God wrote the Bible to tell us how this is possible, and uses the cross to show us.

Before he created light, God was Love, represented by darkness. Darkness means ‘covering’, and ‘hold back’. Love covers a multitude of sins. [2] It is patient. [3] Some people say that darkness is a symbol for evil or sin. But God was not evil nor in sin before he created light. When people are in sin and not being punished by God, they are receiving his love in the form of his patience.

God was also holy, meaning different from everything else. But he had no one to tell that he was Holy. And there was nothing to be different from, except all the things he would make later. So he hid the symbol for holiness in his name ‘Elohim’. ‘Alochuwm” a pun, means ‘not dark.’ []

His name ‘Yahweh’ also tells us he is Holy. It means ‘My thoughts are not understood, and my ways are not understood”. His name “Yeshua”, the Hebrew for ‘Jesus’ means ‘Yahweh” with a marriage (the ‘sh’ sound) in his heart. This tells us he is Love.

The story that starts out in the dark, ends with the light. He first loved us, then made us holy. []

Day One is a picture of Christ. In the evening he declared “Forgive them, they know not what they do.” In the morning, he made us holy by his resurrection, and now we walk in the light.
