When there are more than one book, scroll, or tablet which contain the same story, but are physically separate artifacts, how do you know which order they are to be read in?

It appears throughout Genesis that eyewitnesses wrote the accounts on tablets, which were likely copied on to papyrus while in Egypt with Joseph. Probably Moses carried papyrus with him, rather than tablets. Observing the practice in Genesis, he mimicked it for the beginning of Exodus.
