Discussion

Lu 1:26 []

± Lu 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. 36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. 38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

Joseph - In the story of Tamar (Ge 38) Judah had three sons: Er, Onan, and Shelah. They represent Adam, Israel and Joseph. Shelah was in line to beget the son of the promise but never got the chance. Likewise, Joseph was in line to beget the king of Israel, but did not get the chance. Tamar/Mary was betrothed to Shelah/Joseph.

Mary - shares the gate (subroot) with Tamar.

Mary - מרים‎ rebellion, death מר of them ים.
Tamar - תמר palm tree, 'revelation that brings life ת and death מר'.
'mar' מר - bitter, myrrh, death

Mary and Tamar - three things []

Compare Mary and Tamar. They both wanted an assurance.

± Lu 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

± Ge 38:16 And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she [was] his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?

± Lu 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Tamar received the rod and Mary told the power of God would over shadow her.
Tamar received the signet ring and Mary was told he would be called the son of the Most High.
Tamar received bracelets (to keep an empty vessel clean) and Mary was told it was a Holy thing within her.

John conceived six month's earlier []

The conceptions of John and Jesus were six months apart, diving the year into two parts. If Jesus is the "Morning star" it makes John the "Evening star". John preached repentance going into the darkness, a time of grace, as he introduced Jesus. Jesus taught mercy and love coming into the light, a time of holiness. In the darkness the small lights still proclaim holiness. In the day, the shadows proclaim grace. ( ± Ge 1:14-19 )
