Light was hidden in God's name, then it was used a a symbol of holiness, or being separate, as soon as there was something to be separate from. When God declared, "Let there be light", he declared that he was holy.

He then made sure that Adam would understand that his holiness and love would always be together. From the light Adam would see in the holiness expressed by the day, there would always be shadows of his love to cover him. In the darkness and covering of his love, there would always be reminders of his holiness.

Water is a symbol of the word of God. [] And the ground is creation which does not understand the word. [] The mist tells us that those things which were made by God tell us about God in some way. Before he made Adam, the universe started teaching. []

God made Adam before he made the garden. He made him from the dust of the earth. He then made the garden so that Adam could see that God had put him in a special place made for him. God has prepared a special place for each of us. We can see it in patterns.

He created a universe where the very best scientists say that it looks like we are at the center of it. He created a planet at a precise distance from our sun so that life can exist. He created all the things we need to eat and breathe. He created your parents so that you would be born exactly how and who you are. He had Noah create a place on the ark for each of the animals. He had Solomon create many rooms in the temple to symbolize the places Christ has prepared for us.

Each special place is a symbol like light. They show that we have been separated by God for his purpose.
