It is claimed that the Hebrews did not use the ST until the captivity because it is not found in archeology before then. However, there is a good reason they are not found before then.

They were not in common use. Being considered to be of divine origin, the original tablets using ST passed from Father to Son from Adam surviving the floood with Noah, and preserved through Babel until they reached the library of Pharaoh with Joseph.  Moses carried them into the desert on papyrus, then put them with the arc in the tabernacle; then into the temple.
When they were taken into captivity, the sacred things were made common by the enemy king. He gave parties using the temple cups, he made the scriptures common. It is there that the square text is found because their captors humiliated them by making their divine letters profane.
God gave a blessing and a birthright. It is plausible that the tablets were part of the birthright?

Tradition holds that there was no scripture written in Paleo-Hebrew (PH). The evidence bears this out; Scholars had to transliterate Square-text to Paleo-Hebrew. [1]

There is no "kosher style-guide" for PH. The language was not considered sacred. The artifacts that have been found concern daily activities such as receipts, etc. They did not consider it important to maintain it's 'purity'.

PH are allegorical interpretations of the names of the square-text (ST).

aleph
PH: bull, Strong - control - word
ST: the unspeakable name of God, the Trinity, the Creator א taught ל in riddles of the cross ף, God אל fulfilled prophecy ף, anger finished (put away) אף with teaching (ל).
bet
PH: house - covenant
ST: God revealed himself to man ב and the revelation brought new life ת.
gimel
PH: camel, foot, foot - water - control
ST: Spring (life) גל of the promise of the father מ, pursue ג the chosen (circumcised) מל, also גמ taught ל, pursue ג the father's מ teaching ל.
zayin - kind, prostitute
PH: Plow, weapon, cut off. [1][2] Plow - the seed, fish
ST: bride ז of the son of man through his death ן.

The PH is not rich enough to sustain the mystery.

  1. 'Plow' is a euphemism for intimacy with a prostitute see Samson's riddle
  2. The PH symbol is plausibly interpreted as sex

The PH are pictographs which are subjective to determine meaning. The ST letters get meaning from the strokes and so are validates both from the strokes and the words they are found in.
