Advent Dec 3 - Luke 1:17 []

± Lu 1:17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Elijah, in the process of turning the hearts of the children of Abraham back to the God of their fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, called fire from heaven to consume the sacrifice doused in water. John, in the spirit of Elijah did the same. It is hidden in the mystery.

Water represents the word, as we saw there was no rain until Elijah spoke, and no Word until John. The sacrifice he offered was a picture of Christ as THE sacrifice, immersed in the Word of prophecy.

Fire is a symbol of the Spirit of God. As Elijah called down fire from heaven, while Jesus was immersed in water, the Spirit descended on him. It looked like a dove. From that moment on Jesus was totally consumed in obedience to the will of the Father.
