First of all, Keep it Simple. Resist the temptation to start with all the bells and whistles. As a guide in a learner driven studio, one of your goals is to equip the tribe to seek and implement systems as the need arises.
Watch “Keeping Acton Simple” to hone in on this mindset. Next, prioritize. Welcome to the Eisenhower Decision Matrix and Running Partner Contract, two tools that will put urgent and important tasks at the top of your ‘to do’ list; delegate less important tasks; discard the trivial and hold you accountable for your promises. Create an Eisenhower Decision Matrix for the next few weeks that captures the tasks you need done. Post your matrix SMART goals for urgent and important tasks and for the jobs you may be able to delegate to others. Find a Running Partner – either another guide, owner, spouse or best friend, and propose, sign and post a contract with deliverables, deadlines and consequences if you do not deliver on your promises. Question: One of the early jobs of a guide is to act as a role model and introduce new tools, questions, frameworks and mental models that focus attention or add new perspectives. If you were to offer two of the three tools and mental models above to choose between the Eisenhower Decision Matrix, SMART goals or a Running Partner Contract in the first few weeks on campus, which would you choose or which alternative tools and mental models would you offer?
