Isaiah 55:1-9
This passage unveils Christ’s finished work through the invitation into grace (wine), revelation (water), teaching (milk), and life (bread). It calls people into the New Teaching of Peace (New Jerusalem), revealing the Son of God’s completed work.
1. "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters" (Isaiah 55:1)
- "Come" (באו - bo’u) reverses אב (ab - Father), showing an invitation into the Father’s presence through Christ.
- "Thirsty" speaks of the soul's longing for revelation, fulfilled in Christ (John 7:37).
- "Waters" (מים - mayim), from letter analysis:
- מ (Mem) = The promise of the Father
- י (Yod) = They became a new creation
- ם (Final Mem) = And He finished His declared works
- Reveals the Spirit's work: Bringing the Father’s promise to completion in Christ.
2. "Buy wine and milk without money and without cost"
- Wine is grace—the favor of God through the Son’s sacrifice (Luke 22:20).
- Milk is teaching—the New Teaching of Peace (Hebrews 5:12-13).
- Without cost = The Son of God died and rose again (Qof - ק), paying the full price.
- Formation Analysis:
- יין (Wine) = י (new creation) + י (new creation) + ן (Son of Man died and was restored) → Grace creates the new man through Christ’s death and resurrection.
- חלב (Milk) = ח (Understanding) + ל (Teaching) + ב (Revealed to man) → Understanding comes through Christ’s teaching.
- This affirms John 1:17: "Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ."
3. "Why spend money on what is not bread?" (Isaiah 55:2)
- Bread (לחם - lechem) comes from לחם (lacham - battle) → True bread comes through Christ’s battle at the cross.
- "Not bread" represents earthly pursuits that do not satisfy (Ecclesiastes 1:2).
- Christ is the Bread of Life (John 6:35), fulfilling the eternal hunger for righteousness.
4. "I will make an everlasting covenant with you—My faithful love promised to David" (Isaiah 55:3)
- Covenant (ברית - berit) = The cutting of flesh → Fulfilled in Christ's crucifixion.
- David (דוד) is formed by:
- ד (Command) + ו (Distinguishing, connecting) + ד (Command)
- Christ, the Son of David, connects heaven and earth through obedience (Philippians 2:8).
5. "Seek the Lord while He may be found" (Isaiah 55:6)
- דרש (darash - seek) = ד (command) + ר (revelation) + ש (returns with increase).
- Seeking God means obeying the command to seek Christ’s revelation, which multiplies (John 5:39).
- "While He may be found" → The revelation of Christ is already complete in the New Teaching of Peace (New Jerusalem).
6. "For My thoughts are not your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9)
- God’s wisdom is hidden in Christ (Colossians 2:2-3).
- Thoughts (מחשבות - machshavot) contains שב (shuv - return) → Calling Israel to return to the mind of Christ.
- The cross seems foolish to the world but is God’s wisdom (1 Cor. 1:18-25).
