v1: At the time of Christ, Christ will judge Israel by the holiness of the Son of Man. He will punish the lazy watchmen (leaders of Israel) who say that God won't do anything. <ref>Parallel to: {{bgw|2Pe 3:4 }} And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as [they were] from the beginning of the creation.</ref>

v2. They will be made desolate, a probable reference to the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 A.D. <ref>see Jesus teaching of the coming desolation in Matthew.</ref>
