The Word in a Word: Faith

Opening Jingle:

"The Word in a Word – where one word brings the Word to life!"

Host:

Welcome to The Word in a Word. Today, we’re exploring the Hebrew word אמון (aman), often translated as "faith", has the root 'amen' אמן. Its meaning goes far beyond simple belief, revealing profound connections to trust, knowledge, and the promises of God.

By its formation, אמן gives us two riddles:

  1. אמן – "Mother אמ of the cross ן."
  2. אמן – "Where א()ן is the promise of the Father מ?"

These riddles guide us to the heart of faith, showing us that it is deeply rooted in knowing God and trusting His promises.

Sound Effect: (Soft harp melody.)

Let’s begin with the first riddle: אמ Mother of the cross ן. This imagery points us to Mary, the mother of Jesus, who embodies faith. Mary knew the promises God had made to her: that her Son would be the Savior. Even as she stood at the foot of the cross, she trusted in God’s plan, holding on to the promise that seemed hidden in that moment of suffering.

Her faith wasn’t blind; it was anchored in the knowledge of who God is and what He had spoken. Faith, like Mary’s, involves standing firm even in the face of the unknown, trusting in the fulfillment of God’s Word.

Now, consider the second riddle: "Where אן is the promise of the Father מ?" This phrase captures the essence of faith as a journey. Faith begins with knowing God’s promise and continues with trust, looking forward to it, even when the fulfillment seems distant or unclear.

Faith is the truth of his promise and trusting it.

Faith is not just about belief—it is the essential nature of the kingdom and its teaching. Heb 11:1, Faith reflects the foundation of God’s kingdom, where trust in His promises aligns with His purposes. It’s an active participation in God’s revealed truth, rather than a passive hope for unseen outcomes.

Faith, as revealed in אמן, is both knowledge and trust. It is knowing the promises of the Father and standing firm in them, even when the cross—our trials—obscures the fulfillment.

Closing Thought:

When you think of faith, ask yourself: Do I know God’s promises? Am I trusting Him to fulfill them, even when circumstances seem unclear? Faith is not just belief; it is a journey of knowing, trusting, and walking with God through every season of life.

Closing Jingle:

"The Word in a Word – where one word brings the Word to life. See you next time!"

Sound Effect: (Harp fades out.)
