Love Is Not What You Think

📜 Love Is Not What You Think

(Tract 5 — Redefining Love by What God Says About Hate)

❤️ “God is love.”

But what is love?

Not what you think.

Not what the world taught you.

Not even what religion taught you.

God doesn’t define love by warm feelings.

He defines love by what happens when it’s missing.

🪓 The Axe and the Accident

In God’s law, if you’re chopping wood and the axe head flies off and kills someone —

that’s not “just an accident.”

It’s an act of hate.

Why?

Because you didn’t put the other person first.

You didn’t care for their safety.

That’s how God defines hate: Not putting the other first.

So what is love?

Putting the other first — always.

😠 “But they hurt me!”

Yes. But that doesn’t give you the right to become God.

When David sinned — adultery, murder, betrayal —

he said something strange in his repentance:

“Against You alone have I sinned, O God.” (Psalm 51:4)

Not against Bathsheba. Not Uriah.

Against God.

Why?

Because sin isn’t just breaking a rule —

It’s trying to be God.

🤬 When You Take Offense, You’re Pretending to Be God

When I take offense at you…

I act like the Judge.

I decide what’s right.

I pronounce guilt.

That’s not love. That’s self-deification.

And every time I take offense, I send out ripples

of pain, of fear, of death.

🔁 What Does Repentance Look Like?

It’s not saying sorry.

It’s not even feeling bad.

Repentance is forgiving you.

It’s absorbing the ripple I created…

and the ripple you created…

and choosing not to pass them on.

🙌 “But won’t I be manipulated?”

That’s what we’re afraid of, right?

“If I love like that, they’ll take advantage of me.” “If I don’t get offended, I’ll lose control.”

But God loves more than anyone —

and He is never coerced.

You can’t manipulate Him.

You can’t guilt Him.

You can’t control Him.

Because love is always a free gift.

If you’re loving in fear, manipulation, or pressure —

you’re not loving.

✝️ The Cross Is What Love Looks Like

God didn’t just talk about love.

He absorbed every ripple of sin and offense.

He said:

“Father, forgive them.” “They don’t know what they’re doing.”

And He didn’t just say it to them

He says it to you.
