Genesis 1 – Day One [∞][edit | edit source]

📖 Genesis 1:2–5

And the earth was tohu and bohu, and darkness was upon the face of the tehom.

And the Spirit of God hovered over the face of the waters.

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.

And the evening and the morning were the first day.


🧩 SP Interpretation[edit | edit source]

Tohu – תהו = Vanity / Emptiness / Worthlessness[edit | edit source]

Represents the emptiness of death—not just physical, but spiritual.

The Son lays down His life and enters the void of value. Nothing is left but silence and unformed purpose.

Bohu – בהו = Void / Hollow / Unreconciled structure[edit | edit source]

Where tohu is vanity of value, bohu is absence of order.

It reflects death without meaning, form without life—the waiting tomb.

Darkness – חשך = Love[edit | edit source]

SP reverses tradition: darkness is not evil but mercy.

It is the Father’s love, covering the Son in death.

Like the veil in the temple. Like the womb. Like the grave. The darkness on the face of the deep is the Father’s forbearance, shielding the world from wrath by hiding His Son in death.

Tehom – תהום = The abyss of vanities[edit | edit source]

Though often translated “deep,” the word is rooted in tohu (vanity).

It becomes the accumulated vanities—the depth of death, the silence of the cross, the void of the grave.

The Son of God—sinless, holy—descends into the tehom.

This is the ultimate vanity: “All is vanity.” (Ecc 1:2)

The only righteous man is slain. The Word becomes silence.


Then the Spirit hovered[edit | edit source]

The Spirit of God (רוח אלהים) hovers over the surface.

He is not inside the death—He is above it, poised to speak life.

This is the pattern:

Judgment, then hovering… then resurrection.


💡 “Let there be light.”[edit | edit source]

The first words after death are resurrection.

Light = holiness.

It is not the Sun—it is Christ’s holiness shining again, revealed after the cross.

This is the first Gospel proclamation:

From the depth of vanities, Christ rises. From the Father’s covering, His holiness is revealed.

Love and holiness are never enemies—but they must be distinguished.

The cross is where God’s love covers, but His holiness shines forth.

He divides—not to separate, but to reveal.

🧩 Why it’s not “the first day” but “day one[edit | edit source]

“And the evening and the morning were day one

(יום אחד) — yom echad

🔍 Hebrew does not say "the first day" (יום הראשון)[edit | edit source]

Instead, it says "day one"echad, not rishon.


✝️ SP Meaning: Why it Matters[edit | edit source]

1. Echad = Unity[edit | edit source]

אחד (echad) = one, but in SP it implies oneness, unity, singularity of purpose.

The same word is used in:

"YHWH our God, YHWH is one (echad)" — Deut 6:4

And in marriage: "And the two shall become one (echad) flesh" — Gen 2:24

So “day one” is not just a count. It is a theological statement:

Day One is unified, complete in itself, foundational.


2. It is the foundation of all days[edit | edit source]

There is no "day zero"—this is the starting point of all meaning.

Day One contains the pattern that every other day echoes and expands.

It is not “first” among many. It is onethe origin, the whole Gospel seed.


3. SP Interpretation: Day One = The Cross[edit | edit source]

In SP, Day One contains:

  • The death of Christ (tohu, bohu, tehom)
  • The Father’s love covering Him (darkness)
  • The Spirit waiting in silence (hovering)
  • The resurrection (let there be light)
  • The holy nature of the Son revealed (light)
  • The distinction of love and holiness (division)
  • The unified purpose of all redemptive history (echad)

This oneness is why it's not called “the first” (ordinal), but simply:

Day One — the day that defines all others.
