Who was Jesus talking to when he said he would be sitting?
- The high priest. [1]
What is sitting a symbol for?
- Finished [2]
What is standing a symbol for?
- By implication 'Not finished'
Once we have replaced the symbols, we ask the real question: Why was Jesus finished with the high priest and not finished with Stephen?
- He pronounced judgement on the high priest.
What was the high priest's response?
- He tore his clothes.
Clothes represent what?
- Works [3]
The priest was declaring that his own works were nothing. He has been exposed by Jesus. In his exposure, he seals his condemnation by declaring that it is Jesus who blasphemes. [4]
