Skeptics []

The difference between a skeptic and a scoffer, is that a true skeptic will take the effort to know. He is a scientist applying the scientific method. The scoffer is just an ignorant self-important parrot.

You can't blame a true skeptic for disbelieving the claims of Christianity when most churches teach you must believe God before you can know him. This is a reasonable position.

When Gideon thought he heard God tell him to lead an army, he was a skeptic. So he tested to see if it was God he was hearing. Many people misinterpret this. They think that if they lay out fleeces that God is obligated to answer them. Judges 6ff

He's not. He is sovereign. In the account of Gideon, God initiated the communication, and Gideon validated that it was God speaking. The reason most people don't get answers to tests like this is because whatever they thought they heard was not from God.
