Prophetic riddle []

How do you hide something in plain sight? Riddles.

The difficulty in solving riddles is that they are not intended to be solved before the answer is known. There is insufficient information in the riddle to discern the solution.

Once the answer is known, the riddle may be discerned.

In the riddle of the sphinx what is being withheld? “What being has four legs, then two, and then three?” Two things are withheld:

1. 'Legs ' is being used as a trope for 'arms'.
2. 'Legs' is being used as a trope for 'cane'.

If the riddle was a literal question it would have been worded "What being is mobilized by arms and legs, then legs, then legs and a cane?"

God used metaphors 4000 years before he defined them. He did not 'open the scrolls' or make the mystery known until after the cross.
